Furnace and Dual Fuel Rebates in BC

Replacing a gas furnace that’s 15 years or older? FortisBC’s dual fuel rebate helps pay for a heat pump paired with a new high-efficiency gas furnace. Here’s how dual fuel works, who qualifies and how Mendieta ACS helps you get the rebate.

What Is a Dual Fuel Heating System?

A dual fuel heating system pairs an electric heat pump with a high-efficiency gas furnace, managed by one set of controls. The heat pump handles most of your home’s heating needs during milder weather and provides cooling in summer. When outdoor temperatures drop and more heat is needed, the gas furnace takes over to help maintain a comfortable indoor temperature. This combination offers year-round comfort, flexible heating options and efficient performance throughout BC’s changing seasons.

How Much Is the FortisBC Dual Fuel Rebate?

FortisBC offers up to $4,000 for an eligible dual fuel system, plus a $300 bonus if you also complete another eligible Home Renovation Rebate upgrade. The current rebate applies to installations completed on or after October 15, 2026.

Who Qualifies for the FortisBC Dual Fuel Rebate?

  • Your home has a residential FortisBC natural gas or propane account.
  • It’s your year-round primary residence and at least 12 months old.
  • The system replaces your existing gas furnace, which must be your main heating and at least 15 years old. Replacing an existing dual fuel system, or a warranty or insurance replacement, doesn’t qualify.
  • The new system is a central ducted heat pump paired with a new high-efficiency gas furnace, run by a connected thermostat, and listed on FortisBC’s Qualified Dual Fuel Systems List.
  • It’s installed by a Technical Safety BC licensed gas contractor listed with the Home Performance Contractor Network.
  • A program-approved heat load calculation and on-site commissioning are completed.
  • You apply within six months of the paid invoice date.

Looking for a Furnace Rebate on Its Own?

FortisBC doesn’t currently offer a rebate for replacing a gas furnace on its own. If you’re replacing an old furnace, the dual fuel rebate (a heat pump paired with a new high-efficiency gas furnace) is the main way to get a rebate. Call us and we’ll check what applies to your home. See our Furnace Installation and Repair page.
