Condo and Apartment Heat Pump Rebates in BC

If your condo or apartment is heated with electricity, you can get up to $2,250 from BC Hydro to switch to a heat pump. Income-qualified households can get up to $5,000 through the CleanBC Energy Savings Program. A heat pump gives you efficient heat in winter and air conditioning in summer.

  • For apartment buildings up to six storeys, stacked townhomes and multiplexes with six or more units.
  • The unit must be primarily heated by electricity. The BC Assessment value must be $754,000 or less.
  • You pre-register and get an eligibility code before installation. The code is valid for three months.

Note: BC Hydro recommends that income-qualified households apply to the Energy Savings Program instead. See our Income-Qualified Rebates page.

Getting Strata Approval for a Heat Pump

Both programs need your strata or co-op board’s approval. BC Hydro asks for a quote and board approval before you apply for pre-approval. We can prepare the quote and equipment details your board asks for, including where the indoor and outdoor units will go.

Which Heat Pump Works in a Condo?

Most condo and apartment upgrades use a ductless mini-split or multi-split heat pump. For the Energy Savings Program, the unit needs a variable-speed compressor and must meet the program’s efficiency ratings. See our Ductless Mini Splits page.
